KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON – DISCOVERED IN ALNWICK…

Nearly all book-lovers in the North-East of England are familiar with Barter Books of Alnwick.  It is a fantastic ex-railway station that has been turned into one of the most delightful, snuggly bookstores in the country.  What I certainly did not know, however, was that it was also home to the ‘rediscovery’ of those now-infamous ‘Keep Calm and Carry On‘ posters which have been reproduced and bastardised countless times in the last couple of years.

Here is a fascinating short documentary on how Barter Books discovered the (never issued) classic British WWII poster.

I absolutely love them, but I am surprised that the collection doesn’t feature more former Yugoslav players in there, given Lucić’s Bosnia & Herzegovinian roots.

FAMOUS LOGOS : HOW THEY WERE BORN

Here are a few short videos about the designing of some iconic, far-reaching logos.  I think the debunking of the creative process in these clips is fascinating, and seeing each designers set of methods proves that there is no right or wrong way in working toward superb end results.  Stefan Sagmeister talks about the importance of the hand-made in a world obsessed with technology and machinery.  A little bit of youtube viewing for the weekend….
